How to start learning Chinese again?
A gap is not a reset to week one, and it is not an HSK 3 episode. Say one line twice. The 2,200 class hours to an ILR 3 did not expire.

A long gap can make the last course look unusable. Restart lists then hand you a beginner syllabus, or an HSK-numbered episode that names a level.
This page refuses both for the return week. If a spoken line is still there, take it to the tone sentence bank and say it twice, trap included. That is how to start learning Chinese again on this shelf, not a reset to week one. The 2,200 class hours to an ILR speaking-and-listening 3 can stay on the hours note.
A gap is not week one
A gap, on this page, is not a reset to how to start learning Chinese.
The zero path already names week one for an adult who has no spoken line yet. Returning after a break is a different arrival. You may still have a greeting, a family name, or a short offer in the mouth. That remainder is the job, not a reason to collect another beginner outline.
If you cannot recover even one line, use the zero path. This page will not pretend a blank slate is the same as rust.
An HSK episode is not a placement
Restart searches often hand you an HSK 2 or HSK 3 episode and call two minutes of gist a level. That is a product landing zone. It is not a placement this page will run.
The written HSK is a paper. An ILR speaking-and-listening 3 is a government classroom finish line. A numbered episode is neither. The hours note already names what those exam sticks describe. This page does not add a third stick made of podcast chapters.
Listening you can mostly follow can still be useful work later. It does not decide the return week.
What the return week is measuring
The return week is measuring whether a tone you used to say is still there, not whether a course has re-enrolled you.
The eight lines on the sentence-bank page already carry a same-tone trap. Use a line you once had. Say the pinyin as written, then say the all-first-tone version. The method stays on that page.

The hours did not expire
The current U.S. State Department language-training page still lists Category IV as “88 weeks (2200 class hours)”, aimed at “an integrated score of 3 (Speaking + Listening) on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.” Those 2,200 class hours to an ILR speaking-and-listening 3 are a classroom row. A personal gap does not rewrite them.
This page will not subtract months off that row, and it will not tell you the hours are used up because you stopped. If the denominator itself is the confusion, stay on the hours note.
What waits until another page
Self-study, a structured course, and a teacher now have their own note: should I learn Chinese alone, in a course, or with a teacher. A second-week syllabus is not the return week.
